Creating blogs and adding fresh content to your website is not just about impressing your visitors. Google has stated many times that part of the criteria that they judge websites on when determining rankings is the freshness of your content, the quality of the content and how often you are adding content.

If you have never written a blog before then it can sometimes be a little daunting and difficult to work out where to start. My suggestion would be to keep a notebook specifically for blog ideas. Take this notebook with you and whenever you get a great blogging idea then write it down in the notebook. After a few weeks you will find that you have a whole range of topics.

Try to start out with topics that you know really well. If you are an expert in your field then write content about different aspects of your industry, invite people to comment and get some discussion happening.

So where do I start?

 

It's always best to take a logical and structured approach. Here's what I would suggest.

  • Try to break your ideas down to different topic areas or categories. Think about the navigation of your blog pages and what will be easiest for your readers.

  • Try to write in a structured way, ie introduction, main body, conclusion, so that your readers can follow your argument and get a better understanding of the topic that you are discussing.

  • If possible try to write an article a week to start with. You will find that the more that you write, the better you become at it. If you have trouble finding time to write then maybe think about getting a guest blogger to help.

  • Invite readers to comment on your blogs and try to get some discussion going. If you can get people to engage with your blog then they are more likely to engage with your business.
 

The more that you write, the better you will become and the more chance there is that you will be regarded as an expert in your field. Once you are regarded as an expert there is a far better chance that people will want to make use of your business.

Once Google indexes your blog it will start appearing in the search results. If you create titles that also match phrases that people will be searching then there is a good chance that people will click on your blogs.
